PRESERVE AND CHERISH THE
“PALE BLUE DOT”

The only home we have ever known.

Save wildlife and it promotes health ecosystems, like this reef with hundreds of blue tang fish.

Our Story

EARTH LEGACY FOUNDATION – SAVING OUR PLANET, AND THE CREATURES LIVING IN IT, TO PRESERVE OUR FUTURE

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives… it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.” Carl Sagan, 1994

Our Legacy

Save Wildlife

Through our efforts to understand the harvesting of endangered wildlife, we realised that in order to protect and save wildlife, we must offer an alternative source of sustenance and income. We are working with communities to establish several skills development projects, aquaculture farms, and building tourism, to create sustainable job opportunities.

Captain Fanplastic

We partner with Oceans Research to bring Captain Fanplastic’s innovative environmental education programme to underprivileged schools in Mossel Bay. Through storytelling, hands-on learning, and community engagement, the initiative empowers the kids with sustainable waste management habits.

Carpentry Workshops

Alongside our FSC-registered partners, LevasFlor, our goal for the project is to create a facility that can process responsibly harvested wood and train locals in carpentry skills. Apprentices will be identified from the communities and we will sell or export manufactured products, keeping the profits in Mozambique, to the benefit of the local population.

Pebane Airfield

Pebane, Mozambique, is an incredibly remote area, and its once-functional airstrip had fallen into disrepair due to a lack of funding. Recognising the vital role of accessible transport for conservation and community initiatives, we revitalised the airstrip, enhancing the local area by improving connectivity, emergency response capabilities, and economic opportunities.

Sundome Project

Our purpose-built solar stills can produce over 20 litres of fresh water per day, per still utilising seawater or grey water. We used these stills to ensure freshwater on the remote islands and developed more solar stills for the coastal communities, providing fresh drinking water for families in the area.
